I’m writing to you today to offer an update on our overall financial situation and on our crucial Summer Campaign.
Like those of everyone else, our costs have risen in recent months, putting significant strain on our budget.
Meanwhile, we’ve seen a sharp and troubling decline in the number of readers coming to Common Dreams from Google and Facebook, evidently due to algorithm and policy changes by the tech giants that have had the effect of suppressing
our articles.
Our amazing and dedicated readers keep coming back, but since Google and Facebook control so much of the traffic on the internet, it’s become increasingly hard to attract new readers, which translates directly to a decline in donations.
Taken together, these trends have created a serious crunch on our already shoestring budget.
That’s why it’s so critical that we meet our Summer Campaign goal of $75,000 by September 1. These are funds we absolutely count on to pay our reporters and keep our servers running.
