John,
Kentucky has faced immeasurable devastation over the past month. When the flooding began in Eastern Kentucky, no one knew how severe and extensive the damage would be.
Andy has been working closely with first responders and local, state, and national officials to ensure those affected by this historic flooding get the resources they need to recover, rebuild, and move forward.
We want to share an update about what Andy’s been doing since this historic flooding.
In the first days, Andy:
- Mobilized the Kentucky National Guard to help deliver supplies and support local first responders.
- Worked with state agencies to coordinate debris removal and water rescues.
- Working across the aisle with Republicans in the legislature, called a special session to deliver over $200 million worth of resources to eastern Kentucky.
- Delivered several updates to the Commonwealth, providing Kentuckians with the latest information and an outlook for the next steps.
- Sent a letter to President Joe Biden Requesting a Federal Disaster Declaration.
- Coordinated with surrounding states and the federal government to acquire transportation and equipment and to get FEMA boots on the ground as quickly as possible.
- Launched the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund for families impacted by the flooding.
- Announced a breadth of executive actions to assist Kentuckians in crisis.
- Ordered flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of those lost or impacted by flooding.
Andy remains focused on supporting all those impacted by this historic flooding. He will continue doing all he can to help Eastern Kentucky rebuild and recover.
We're grateful to have you by our side, and we will get through this together.
