John,
A breaking news report last week on the war in Afghanistan
revealed that the U.S. government has been altering data almost from
the start to bolster the image of the war.
The Afghanistan Papers, which have
only become public now after a long court battle, show administration
after administration with no strategy, no concept of what victory
would look like, and no idea who the “bad guys” even are.
But instead of acknowledging their
failures, senior officials lied to the American people about U.S.
prospects for success in Afghanistan, spent billions of dollars trying
to build up a corrupt, dysfunctional government, and sent even more of
our men and women into harm’s way.
And what do we have to show for
this 18-year war perpetuated by lies?
-
Thousands of American lives lost.
-
Thousands of Afghan lives lost.
-
Billions of dollars wasted.
The lies and incoherent strategies
laid out in the Afghanistan Papers are staggering, and the persons
involved have a lot of answering to do, but if there’s one thing we
must demand in response, it’s this: End the war in
Afghanistan and bring the troops home.
That’s why we need you to be vocal
and insist that action be taken immediately.

“Every data point was altered
to present the best picture possible,” Bob Crowley, an Army colonel
who served as a senior counterinsurgency adviser to U.S. military
commanders in 2013 and 2014, told
government interviewers.
Without pressure from the public,
Congress will not act. And despite periodic bluster from this White
House about ending “endless wars,” there’s no indication President
Trump will ever follow through on his promises to bring them to a
close.
In fact, according to reports, the
president is considering sending an additional 14,000 troops to the
Middle East. And there are already more troops in the Middle East now
than when President Trump took office!
When does it end?
I hope you’ll show your support for
ending the longest war in American history by signing this petition
right away.

P.S. Please forward this email to
your friends and encourage them to sign the petition, too. It’s clear
only an overwhelming public outcry will force Congress to take
action.
