** ‘Anatomy of a Police State’: John W. Whitehead to Speak at National Conference on the Menace of a National Police Force
------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Constitutional attorney John W. Whitehead will be one of the lead speakers at a national conference on the dangers of the American police state.

The “Anatomy of a Police State” conference, sponsored by the Ron Paul Institute, will feature a broad array of speakers, including former presidential candidate and congressman Ron Paul and retired U.S. Army Colonel Douglas Macgregor. Whitehead will draw from his years of research and writing on the dangers of the American police state, as well as his two best-selling books Battlefield America: The War on the American People ([link removed]) and A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State ([link removed]) to discuss what it means to be a nation in the final stages of transformation into a police state.

Tickets and further details on the conference, which will take place on September 3, 2022, at the Westin Washington near Dulles Airport, are available at: [link removed]. Signed copies of Whitehead’s books, including his debut dystopian novel The Erik Blair Diaries ([link removed]) , will be available for purchase at the event.

“The menace of a national police force—a.k.a. a standing army—vested with the power to completely disregard the Constitution, cannot be overstated, nor can its danger be ignored,” said Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute and author of Battlefield America: The War on the American People ([link removed]) .
MAKE THE GOVERNMENT PLAY BY THE RULES OF THE CONSTITUTION: SUPPORT THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM ([link removed])

In both Battlefield America: The War on the American People ([link removed]) and A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State ([link removed]) , Whitehead charts America's transition from a society governed by “we the people’ to a police state governed by the strong arm of the law. In such an environment, the law becomes yet another tool to oppress the people. As a constitutional attorney of national prominence, and as president of The Rutherford Institute, an international civil liberties organization, Whitehead has been at the forefront of the fight for civil liberties in this country.

The recurring theme at the heart of Whitehead’s work is that the Constitution - and in particular the Bill of Rights - is being undermined on virtually every front. Indeed, everything America was founded upon is in some way being challenged. The openness and freedom that were once the hallmarks of our society are now in peril. We were once a society that valued individual liberty and privacy. But in recent years we have turned into a culture that has quietly accepted surveillance cameras, police and drug-sniffing dogs in our children's schools, national databases that track our finances and activities, sneak-and-peek searches of our homes without our knowledge or consent, and anti-terrorism laws that turn average Americans into suspects. In short, America has become a lockdown nation, and we are all in danger.

John Whitehead is an attorney and author who has written, debated, and practiced widely in the area of constitutional law. A prominent leader in the national dialogue on civil liberties and human rights and a formidable champion of the Constitution, Whitehead’s concern for the persecuted and oppressed led him in 1982 to establish The Rutherford Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the defense of civil liberties and human rights. As nationally syndicated columnist Nat Hentoff observed about Whitehead: “John Whitehead is not only one of the nation’s most consistent and persistent civil libertarians. He is also a remarkably perceptive illustrator of our popular culture, its insights and dangers.”

The Rutherford Institute ([link removed]) , a nonprofit civil liberties organization, provides legal assistance at no charge to individuals whose constitutional rights have been threatened or violated and educates the public on a wide spectrum of issues affecting their freedoms.
