Between meetings on the Hill, connecting with constituents back home, and drafting legislation, I find that it’s helpful to take a step back sometimes and think about what’s driving my commitment to the Third District. Many of you may know that I come from a working-class family right here in Lowell. My father was a union ironworker, and my mother juggled various part time jobs while raising my three sisters and I. Growing up, I witnessed the needs of blue-collar workers firsthand, and that experience is the reason I’m a leading voice on labor issues.

So, when I think about what drives my commitment to representing the Third District with compassion, transparency, and determination, I think about fighting for families like the one I grew up in. I have two amazing young daughters, Grace and Caroline, and it is my life’s work to help build a better world for them and for all young girls across the country.

There are many issues we’re facing right now, and the road ahead is a tough one – I know that much. I won’t accept my daughters growing up with fewer rights over their own bodies than I had when I was their age. Nor will I allow their prospects of a livable planet, affordable education, and economic opportunities dwindle.

I know that a brighter future is possible if we expand access to affordable healthcare, protect our environment, advocate for marginalized communities, and put people over politics.

And I’ll keep working towards making this brighter future a reality, friends – but I can’t do this without your help.
