Climate change will influence 1,000 transmission pathways globally and can potentially make more than half of all infectious diseases more dangerous.
The effects of global climate change can and will touch many aspects of our lives, John. From rising sea levels, extreme weather events, threats to our food supply, and more. But one aspect of climate change that isn’t discussed enough is its impact on infectious diseases.
That’s why environmental and health scientists have created a risk map based on our knowledge of disease transmission to identify what will change in a warmed climate. The results were horrifying: Climate change will influence 1,000 transmission pathways globally and can potentially make more than half of all infectious diseases more dangerous.
From floods creating mosquito breeding grounds and increasing fluid-transmitted diseases to droughts turning rodents towards our homes in search of food and bringing unwanted illnesses, climate change has the capacity to increase the frequency of epidemics in unprecedented ways.
John — SEEC Members are leading the charge against climate change in Congress because we know how much is at stake. Everything from our homes to our very health is at great risk if we do nothing to keep the worst climate change threats at bay.
Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
