350Brooklyn’s Holiday Hootenanny was a wonderful success and we thank everyone who joined us in celebrating 350Brooklyn’s 2019 accomplishments and in supporting its plans for 2020. We had a warm welcome from the folks at Sunny’s Bar, listened to great music from M. Shanghai and Alex Kramer & Friends, enjoyed delicious specialty cocktails and great food, and some people walked away with wonderful items from our Silent Auction. With lots of laughter and good cheer, the bar overflowed with happy people. We thank you all!

Couldn’t make it to Sunny’s but still want to support 350Brooklyn? Consider making a donation! Just follow this link. Donations of any amount are welcome!

In a few weeks we will begin the 2020s, which is shaping up to be the most crucial decade of our lives. Despite understanding since the 1980s that greenhouse gas emissions are responsible for heating the planet and destabilizing the climate, more than half of the greenhouse gasses ever released have been emitted since 1990. The “350” in our name refers to the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that is consistent with a stable climate; we are now above 415 parts per million. Brooklyn—New York City—New York State—the United States—indeed, the entire planet must take dramatic, effective action to tame this crisis if we and the world’s children are going to survive on a livable planet.

Can you help 350Brooklyn contribute to this work? Please consider becoming a monthly sustaining donor.

  • Ten people at $10/month would pay for the postcards that promote our “Climate Wednesdays” series at the Brooklyn Public Library
  • Ten people at $20/month would pay for renting Brooklyn Commons for our monthly meetings (with a little left over.)
  • Ten people at $50/month would pay for a part-time administrative assistant

You get the picture. But really—anything you can do helps 350Brooklyn become even more effective in making the changes we need to make to turn this crisis around. Here’s the link again.

Here’s wishing you all a peaceful and happy holiday season. As the solstice approaches and the dark draws in, we hope you all have a chance for some quiet and warmth.
