After Kansas voters turned out in record numbers to strike down an extremist anti-abortion amendment by double-digits, Republicans still spent $120,000 on a recount.

Spoiler alert: The recount didn’t change the results. Automatically calling for a recount – instead of accepting that a loss is a loss – is just the latest trick in the Republican’s anti-democracy playbook, inspired by Trump’s Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen.

Republicans are signaling that no matter what the results actually are, they’ll do anything they can to discount election outcomes that they don’t like.
