Representative Jeff Van Drew, a right-wing Democrat from New Jersey who opposes the impeachment of Donald Trump, told aides hours ago he is planning to switch parties.
Working Families Party

Hey John, just making sure you saw this from over the weekend:

Last year, the DCCC helped elect Jeff Van Drew to Congress — a pro-Trump “Democrat” from New Jersey with a 100% rating from the NRA.

Just the other day, Van Drew announced that he would be switching parties and running for re-election as a REPUBLICAN.

This is the kind of candidate the DCCC too often spends millions of dollars to elect — while shutting out local voices and trying to stop groups like WFP from electing progressives. We need to fight back now before they do more damage in 2020.

Will you donate $3 today to help us elect progressives, not Republicans, in 2020? Next year’s elections are too important to let something like this happen again.

Thank you, and please make sure you read this note that our NJ State Director Sue Altman sent on Saturday if you want the full story. It’s bad — and we can’t let Rep. Van Drew, the DCCC, and the Democratic machine politicians off the hook.

John,

Representative Jeff Van Drew, a right-wing Democrat from New Jersey who opposes the impeachment of Donald Trump, "is planning to switch parties and declare himself a Republican as soon as next week," according to the New York Times.1

It can't be any clearer: When the DCCC or local Democratic machines like the one in New Jersey are allowed to clear the path for candidates like Van Drew or the turncoat "Democrats" of the IDC in New York, this is what happens.

The answer? We need to double down on our 2020 efforts to recruit and elect more progressive candidates across the country who will ALWAYS stand with working people. That's exactly what the Working Families Party is built for.

Can you chip in now to tell the Democratic establishment we're not going to accept ANY MORE Republicans disguised as Democrats? Add your end-of-year contribution to WFP and help turbocharge our work in 2020:

This is infuriating. But it isn't surprising, especially to those of us here in New Jersey.

For decades, Jeff Van Drew has been a Republican disguised as a Democrat. He has a 100% rating from the NRA, voted against marriage equality, and even championed a tax cut for yacht owners.

Now, with a full House vote on Trump's impeachment scheduled for next week, he's betraying the very same voters who elected him just last year by officially becoming a Trump Republican — just in order to try and save his own job.

Let's be clear: The only reason Jeff Van Drew was elected in the first place is because he had the support of the corporate Democratic establishment including a corrupt Democratic machine in New Jersey that engineered his rise despite knowing his values were out of step with his constituents.

We can't count on the corporate Democratic establishment to deliver the leadership our country needs in this moment. That's why Working Families Party activists here in New Jersey and nationwide are ready to roll up our sleeves and take back our country from Republicans — and any Democrats who act like them.

Can you chip in with an end-of-year contribution now? Every dollar we raise will go a long way toward our work to elect hundreds of progressives at every level in 2020.

Thank you for all that you do.

In solidarity,

Sue Altman
