On Thursday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined Minnesotans from across the state for the opening of the Minnesota State Fair to celebrate the best of Minnesota.?

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg paid a visit to the Minnesota State Fair, meeting with Governor Walz to discuss advancing Minnesota?s infrastructure and celebrate $100 million in federal transportation funding coming to Minnesota. Governor Walz also had a chance to show off the best State Fair in the nation!

Governor Walz Highlights Safety Preparation for the Minnesota State Fair

Safety Preparations

On Tuesday, Governor Walz announced safety preparations for this year's Minnesota State Fair. At Governor Walz's direction, law enforcement agencies including the?Department of Public Safety and the Minnesota State Patrol are collaborating with State Fair organizers to ensure the safety of all attendees. Over 200 police officers from 55 jurisdictions will patrol the fair.?

*?The State Fair is one of my favorite events of the year, and we?re working collaboratively to make sure all 12 days are safe, fun, and memorable for families across the state,?*?said Governor Walz.?*?I am grateful for the hard work between the State Fair leadership and law enforcement at the local, county, and state level to make this a successful event.?*

On Friday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan unveiled the Minnesota Children?s Outdoor Bill of Rights during an event on the Department of Natural Resources grounds at the Minnesota State Fair.?The bill of rights affirms Minnesota?s commitment to creating equitable outdoor recreation experiences and opportunities to discover the natural environment for children and youth no matter where they live, learn, or play.

Governor Walz Authorizes State Disaster Assistance for Eight Minnesota Counties

On Friday, Governor Walz authorized emergency assistance for eight Minnesota counties due to severe weather and flooding damage sustained during four different weather events spanning between April 22 and July 5.

*?Minnesota?s emergency management team has been hard at work meeting with local teams to assess damage due to several severe weather events in recent months,?*?said Governor Walz.?*?The State of Minnesota is committed to supporting the communities in these counties as they recover.?*
