America is taking crucial steps towards protecting our youngest children in law. 

Idaho, Tennessee, and Texas have life-saving trigger laws that just went into effect yesterday because of the overturn of Roe v. Wade. And beginning today, Oklahoma’s trigger laws went into effect as well!

In Idaho, most preborn babies are now protected from abortion!

While abortion is now illegal, there is sadly a loophole. A doctor who commits an abortion is permitted to give certain reasons in order to avoid the law, such as if the child was conceived in rape. Live Action opposes these exceptions because children have inherent value regardless of the circumstances surrounding their conception. 

In Tennessee, abortion is outlawed from the moment of fertilization! While there is a similar loophole, doctors who commit illegal abortions in TN will be given up to 15 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

In Texas, all abortion is illegal! Performing an abortion will be given a life sentence in prison and up to a $100,000 fine. 

In Oklahoma, abortion is similarly illegal in all cases except for the health of the mother - which is an unneeded exception. 

These trigger laws were written to take effect after Roe was overturned. Though Roe was overturned on June 24th, many of these types of laws that were conditioned on the overturn of Roe were written to go into effect for a certain amount of time, often 60 days, to ensure citizens of the state understood the new law.

We can rejoice that so many babies will be saved by these laws! These states are giving us a beautiful glimpse into what a world without abortion will look like.

Even with these laws, though, there is still a misguided belief that abortion is “needed” in some circumstances.
