Megan Youngren on being named Alaska Athlete of the Week!

Megan punched her ticket to the US Olympic Marathon Trials by finishing the California International Marathon in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 52 seconds to eclipse the required 2 hours, 45 minutes by 68 seconds. The impressive performance vaulted the 28-year old Soldotna runner into fourth place on the Alaska all-time fastest women's marathons list.

The winner is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m. on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM.  View past winners here.

Running pioneer Marcie Trent and hockey professional Matt Carle will headline the Class of 2020 inductions into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.
Trent and Carle were the lone selections from the people category and will be joined by the Yukon 800 riverboat race from the event category and the University of Alaska Anchorage's stunning upset of Boston College in the 1991 NCAA Hockey Tournament from the moment category.

Nolan Walker
Nolan Walker and Isaiah Saville of Anchorage faced off in a college hockey series in Minnesota, with Walker racking up an assist each night and Saville making 53 saves and earning the win in Game 2.
The teams split the series, with St. Cloud State winning the first game 4-1 and Nebraska-Omaha claiming the second game 4-3 in overtime.

Jonny Homza
Now that he's adjusted to his surroundings in the Australian Baseball League, Anchorage's Jonny Homza has really picked up his batting.
Buoyed by a five-game hitting streak, the 20-year-old with the Auckland Tuatara raised his average 71 points to .265 in the last week.
Homza, of South High fame, is hitting .381 against left-handers.
He has hit two home runs, three doubles and seven RBIs in 16 games.

Clair DeGeorge
Bemidji State University women's hockey star Clair DeGeorge of Anchorage has been selected by USA Hockey to compete against Canada in the opening two games of the annual rivalry series.
The junior forward was one of 23 players and the only Alaskan picked for games tomorrow in Connecticut and Dec. 17 in Canada.
DeGeorge is one of six newcomers to Team USA. The roster features 17 players who helped the Americans capture a gold medal at the world championships.

Rohyn Huss
After taking off the last few years from college volleyball, Anchorage's Rohyn Huss this year returned to the court with LA Harbor College.
It was like she never left.
The 6-foot sophomore ranked among the scoring leaders in the California Community College Athletic Association and earned all-region honors.
Huss, of Dimond High fame, was second in the CCAA with 5.06 kills per set and finished third with 476 kills and 524 total points.
The outside hitter added 271 digs, 21 aces and 32 blocks in 35 matches.

Sydnee Kimber
Two of the top college wrestlers from the state of Alaska squared off at the North Central Invitational in Naperville, Illinois.
It figured the match came down to a tiebreaker.
Sitka's Sydnee Kimber of McKendree University scored an 8-7 decision Akiak's Agatha Andrews of Jamestown University in the finals of the women's 191-pound weight class.

Cam McDonald
Cam McDonald of Eagle River netted his third career goal and they have all been game winners for the Providence College hockey team.
His recent handy work came in a 4-1 win over UMass-Lowell when he buried a first-period shot to give the Friars a 2-0 lead.
McDonald, of Eagle River High fame, also scored game winners against Clarkson and Boston College in late October.
The 5-foot-9 defenseman isn't just flash.
He's also blocked 16 shots in 17 games and owns is +3 on the season.

Danica Schmidt
Soldotna's Danica Schmidt of the Lower Columbia College women's basketball team was named Everett Classic MVP after leading the Red Devils to the tournament championship.
The freshman came off the bench to play a pivotal role in all three victories but was especially effective in the title game with her first double-double in nine games.

Nyeniea John
Nyeniea John of Anchorage came off the bench to pump in 14 points in 16 minutes to help the Eastern Arizona College women's basketball team earn a 75-64 win over No. 25 Cochise College in the NJCAA.
The 5-foot-8 freshman forward sank 6-of-7 field goals, drained her only 3-point attempt and grabbed two rebounds.
John, of West High fame, has now reached double figures four times in 12 games.
The Gila Monsters are 4-1 when she scores nine or more points.

Lyndon Prayer
Anchorage's Lyndon Prayer caught fire over the weekend with back-to-back 17-point games for the Imperial Valley College men's basketball team.
The 6-foot-1 guard had averaged 10 points a game in his first seven appearances with the California Community College Athletic Association squad.
