This week, I have been traveling the district. It's important that I spend as much time at home in Texas hearing what the people of Texas-14 need!
I started the week with some of my Texas colleagues to meet with ERCOT Board members. We had a great discussion about the future of the energy grid in Texas to ensure reliability in all conditions.
The Coastal Texas project continues to be a priority for our district. I joined Senator Cruz in Galveston to tour the Galveston Ring Barrier Systems and received an informative briefing from the Gulf Coast Protection District and Army Corps of Engineers. We have been pushing for authorization for the project for years, which was included in this year's Water Resources Development Act. The next step will be to get the funding for the project through the appropriations process next year, for the fiscal year 2024. Coastal barrier protection is a matter of national security. The Texas Gulf Coast is home to millions of people, countless homes and jobs, and numerous refineries. Galveston is Houston's (and others) gateway to the Gulf. Anyone on the coast will be the first to say it's not a question of "IF" the next storm hits, but "WHEN." Our communities remain vulnerable.
I held a telephone town hall on Wednesday. I enjoyed answering questions for the great people of TX-14. Be on the lookout for future events as we fight for conservative values in Washington.
Thursday, started the morning off touring Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik (BASF) Corporation in Freeport. It was great to learn more about BASF's initiatives in sustainability, career opportunities, and workforce development. Then I spoke at the Angleton Chamber of Commerce about issues facing Americans and an update on the work I've been doing in Congress. Thank you to the chamber's dedication to enhancing local business, which helps bring the community together.
