The preamble to the Declaration of Independence states that among our unalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Yet for more than 32 million Americans earning less than a $15 per hour “living wage,” the pursuit of happiness is an uphill battle.
Skyrocketing costs in housing, food, education, and healthcare are preventing working families from enjoying the quality of life they deserve. How can we remedy this? By raising the federal minimum wage.
To truly make the minimum wage a living wage, we must demand $15 an hour. This rate will help hardworking Americans keep up with rising costs.

Paying workers a living wage is integral for boosting the middle class and solidifying our nation’s prosperity. With higher wages, fewer employees will have to break their backs just to pay the bills. Job satisfaction will increase and employee retention rates will rise because workers will feel valued. And with additional money in their pockets, Americans will have the confidence to stimulate the economy.
As a member of Congress, growing the middle class will always be one of my foremost priorities. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure that all Americans can live their American Dream by earning a living wage.
