John – I’m Trisha, Political Strategist at the NDRC. Let me explain why governor’s races are so important in 2022.
States like Michigan, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Pennsylvania have fully Republican-controlled legislatures (thanks in large part to gerrymandering). That means Democratic governors are one of the only things that can stop the GOP from exerting TOTAL STATEWIDE CONTROL.
What could they do with total control? Pass devastating abortion bans. Push through dangerous gun laws. And, with the help of the Supreme Court, block access to voting and even overturn legitimate election results.

Candidates in very competitive races like these could be the last line of defense in their states against Republican legislatures aiming to dismantle fair elections. I don’t have to tell you how important it is that pro-democracy candidates win their races.
