Friend,
There are a few sacred traditions in mid-Michigan, and our summer community festivals make the top of the list.
The new 7th district is home to quite a few unique summer festivals. Just in the last few weeks I’ve attended the Ox Roast in Dewitt, the Melon Festival in Howell, the Mint Festival in St. Johns, and the most unique of the bunch – Gizzard Fest in Potterville (before you ask – yes, we do have a festival dedicated to chicken gizzards).
Each event has its own unique draws – melon ice cream at Melon Fest, the Mint Princesses at Mint Festival, the Ox Roast frog jumping contest (featuring children competing to see whose frog can jump the farthest), and the giant chicken float at Gizzard Fest.
Each of these festivals have been packed with people – we’re talking thousands – of all different backgrounds and beliefs. All of them have shown up to support their community, their small businesses, and their neighbors.
Because at the end of the day, here in mid-Michigan we may have different political views, but more importantly, we all love a good festival.
