Hi JOHN,
Today is Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the day in 1920 when U.S. women were first granted the right to vote. However, laws still existed then that excluded Native American, Black, Asian and Latina women from voting.
This day reminds us to keep working to fight existing inequities. In Rhode Island, women earn 83 cents for every dollar men earn. Women make up more than half of our country’s population, and yet only 30% of the House of Representatives. And we have certainly seen with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade that there is still so much work to do for women’s rights and reproductive justice.
In Congress, among my priorities to level the playing field are:
Protecting choice by fighting to codify Roe v. Wade.
Investing in all of our moms by working to pass the Black Maternal Health “Momnibus” Act [[link removed]] , which addresses the racial and ethnic inequities in maternal health.
Ensuring equal pay bysupporting the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the gap in earnings between women and men.
Supporting our families by advocating for permanent paid family leave , which has been proven to work for employers and families.
