87% of Americans do not have federal student loans. Is it fair to have that 87% subsidize the 13% of Americans who are still paying off their student loan investment? Of course not.
Here's Pelosi saying Biden doesn't have the power to eliminate student loan debt:
|
Recently, the Biden administration put politics before responsibility and have put a plan in place to cancel hundreds of billions in student loans. This is not only fiscally irresponsible, it is unjust. Doing so would force those who either did not attend college or have already paid for it themselves, to subsidize the investment that others have taken on.
Furthermore, it would increase the cost of higher education substantially at a time when we should be looking to reduce the cost to increase access as well as increase opportunities for career and workforce training.
Not long ago, even Speaker Pelosi pointed out the President doesn’t have the authority to cancel student loans — Biden is yet again bypassing Congress entirely.
This decision comes not only at a time when inflation is forcing families to choose between food and fuel, but it is right before the midterm elections.
This decision seems to be more politically motivated than in the best interest for America.

Fighting Back Against the Anti-Life Agenda
|
Last week I sent a letter to several major corporations, including Disney, Facebook, and Google, regarding my concern that Big Tech companies are potentially pressuring their female employees to have an abortion, rather than use the companies’ paid family leave policy.
These companies claim that their abortion coverage policies support women, however, they fail to advertise paid family leave policies with the same enthusiasm as their (much less expensive) abortion coverage in the wake of the Dobbs decision. It is cheaper for companies to pay for an abortion procedure, travel expenses, and two weeks of recovery time than for all of the medical expenses and time away from work surrounding the birth of a child.
I’m concerned that this discrepancy in the advertisement of benefits could create an environment where women feel pressured by their employer to choose an abortion rather than carrying their pregnancies to term and building a family.

Demanding an End to Reckless Spending
|
Last week I led a letter to the White House demanding an end to the Biden administration’s irresponsible economic policies that have driven us into a recession.
Since President Biden took office, the inflation rate has skyrocketed from 1.4 percent to 8.5 percent in July 2022. Food prices rose 10.9 percent in July compared to July 2021.
The cost of gasoline remained up nearly 44 percent from the prior year, which was 11.2 percent higher than month before. Home gas bills were up 30.5 percent, home electricity bills were up 15.7 percent, eggs were up 38 percent, and milk was up 16.4 percent compared to July 2021.
Nations can rise and fall due to fiscal responsibility.
It is clear that the Biden administration's reckless spending has crippled our economy and led us into a recession.
Rather than rein in spending, the far-left jammed through a near trillion-dollar spending bill and now plan a broad sweep of student loan bailouts, inevitably raising inflation and exacerbating working-class American's economic turmoil.
We can do better for the American people. Passing my bills, the Cost Estimates Improvement Act and the Federal Agency Sunset Commission Act, would be a big step in the right direction.

Last week I brought my staff along with me as I toured the district — it is important for staff to meet with those that they help to represent.
Thank you on behalf of myself and my staff to those of you who took the time out of their busy schedules to meet with us!

Cloud Helps Secure $8,200,000 Grant for Corpus Christi Airport
Washington, D.C.— Today, Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA) was awarded an $8,200,000 air service development grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
In March of 2022, Congressman Michael Cloud (TX-27) sent a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration in support of CCIA's funding request to install a central in-line baggage handling system that will increase terminal capacity and efficiency, upgrade aging infrastructure, repurpose passenger spaces inside the terminal, and lay critical groundwork to facilitate future growth and expansion of the airport.
This project will also create countless future jobs by providing a critical new space for additional airlines and enhanced air service for the Costal Bend region.
“I was happy to support the Corpus Christi International Airport’s application and thrilled to see the Department of Transportation award this grant request,” Congressman Cloud said. “This funding allows Corpus Christi International Airport to enhance its terminal capacity and upgrade its infrastructure to better serve those traveling to and from the Coastal Bend. I’m eager to see the opportunities this expansion will bring.”

Last week I was on the Bob Jones show, which you can watch HERE.
While there, Rosel and I presented the KEYS radio station with a Flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to commemorate their 75th Anniversary.
