John,

I believe elected representatives need to be engaged with and accountable to the people they represent. When I first ran for Congress, one of my pledges was to hold monthly town hall meetings to engage with voters on a regular basis.

I’m proud to have honored my pledge, and then some. We started doing monthly town halls as soon as I took office. When COVID hit, we switched to virtual town halls, often several a month, inviting local public health experts and other guests to help inform constituents and answer their questions. A number of months ago, we began in-person, monthly town halls once again.

We just held our 91st town hall meeting in Encinitas this past Tuesday. As usual, constituents came in with great questions and we had a robust conversation about important legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act. Folks were eager to hear about the impact of our recent legislation, issues like the soaring cost of child care, and the steps we need to take to meet our climate goals.

These town halls have been a fantastic way to create a feedback loop with residents, and it’s not just supporters who attend -- Independents and even some Republicans regularly swing by to join the conversations. And all are live streamed across social media and archived on our website.

I know many can’t attend in person, but I still want to make sure there’s an avenue to hear from everyone. That’s why today, I’m asking you to fill out this brief survey to let me know what issues are affecting you and your family.

As the November election nears, I want to reiterate my pledge to continue being accessible to the citizens of the 49th District. You sent me to Washington to represent you -- not the special interests or big-dollar donors. That’s why I don’t take a dime in corporate PAC money and will always remain available and accountable to my constituents.

Thanks as always,

Mike
