Hi John, it's Amy!

I know I'm not the only parent who is feeling a whole host of emotions after sending their kid off for their first day of school this week.

The challenges of the last several years have been immense — and the burden has fallen on our children more than any of us wanted. We all just want our kids to be healthy, happy, and safe, in the classroom and outside of it.

It's a cliché, but it's true: our children are our future. My biggest priority is setting them up for success.

That's why I'm so proud of the work my wife, Lori Lightfoot, and I have done to support kids in Chicago. Together, we started the My CHI My Future initiative, which empowers and educates our kids by making a variety of out-of-school activities available to them. Our Summer Kickback series made safe, fun activities available to kids in the South and West sides weekly. It just wrapped for Summer 2022, and was a big success. As the school year begins, we're going to keep giving kids the tools they need to build a better future.

Thank you for being on our team as we make Chicago a better place!

Best,

— Amy Eshleman, First Lady of Chicago
