Now is the time to make sure your firearm is ready for hunting season

Hunting season is fast approaching, and whether you?re planning to hunt deer, moose, or bear, safely and effectively sighting in your rifle is the best first step towards success!
You don?t need to wait until the last minute ? both of the state-owned shooting ranges, Summerhaven Range at 211 Sanford Rd, Augusta, and the Fryberg Range on the Fish & Game Rd, have flexible hours now. Scheduled hours for both ranges are posted on the MDIFW website: mefishwildlife.com/ranges.
Both ranges are open when staffed with volunteer Range Staff Officers to ensure safety and knowledgeable assistance when needed.?Weekdays are often less busy and often allow you to have more instruction and support from Range Safety Officers, ideal for beginners and those new to sighting in their firearm. Please consider joining us during the week.
When you join us, bring your firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and paper targets.
We hope you have a successful hunting season, and always remember the four cardinal rules of gun safety to ensure you have a positive experience -
- Handle every gun as though it is loaded
- Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
- Completely identify your target and know what?s behind your target
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you?re ready to shoot
If you are looking for a range in another area, view the range locator map which shows ranges at rod and gun clubs and privately owned ranges.?
