** Surrey Heath News
------------------------------------------------------------
Homes for Ukraine visit: Last month, I visited the Camberley Social Hub and met a number of Ukrainian refugees with their Surrey Heath hosts. The hosts were able to sponsor them through the Homes for Ukraine scheme, which I implemented earlier this year as Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. It was wonderful to see them settling in so well, and you can see more of my visit here ([link removed]) .

Fire service access to MOD land: Throughout the extremely hot weather towards the end of July and during August, I was contacted by a number of constituents who had concerns about the ability of fire services to access some restricted sections of MOD land in my constituency. I wrote to the MOD to raise these understandable concerns, and was pleased to receive an update clarifying that the issue had been investigated and addressed with the fire services.

A322/M3 Congestion: Earlier this month, I wrote a joint letter with Cllr Matt Furniss, Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure & Economy at Surrey County Council, to National Highways to enquire again about what progress has been made with potential plans for large scale infrastructural change to this junction. This is a matter which I have written to National Highways on a number of times, and I hope that a joint approach with the County Council will enable improvements to be secured more swiftly.

SHBC Site Allocation Consultation: I have been contacted by a number of constituents regarding the Council's current consultation about Additional Site Allocations for Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople. This is part of the Council's Draft Local Plan, and I recently posted an update on my Facebook page regarding the consultation which you can find here ([link removed]) .

Cost of living support: I know that a number of constituents are deeply worried about the rising costs of living and have been in touch to ask about support available. The Government has released a support package for those struggling with rising costs, and I would encourage anyone with family or friends who are struggling to visit this page ([link removed]) to see what help might be available to them.

Covid Booster Vaccine Rollout: I have had an update from NHS England and I understand that the government has accepted the final JCVI advice which states the following people should be offered a COVID-19 booster vaccine this autumn: residents in a care home for older adults and staff working in care homes for older adults; frontline health and social care workers; all adults aged 50 years and over; persons aged 5 to 49 years in a clinical risk group, as set out in the Green Book; persons aged 5 to 49 years who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression; persons aged 16 to 49 years who are carers, as set out in the Green Book. The vaccination programme is set to start during the week of 5 September, and NHS staff will begin vaccinating care home residents and people who are housebound. I would encourage all those who are eligible to go and get their jabs when they can once the programme launches. You can read more here

Extra Police Funding: I am delighted to report that Surrey’s Police and Crime Commissioner will receive £707,320 of new funding from the latest round of the Conservative Government’s Safer Streets Fund. The extra funding will go towards police forces, councils, and community groups – providing extra CCTV and street lighting, protecting women and girls, and tackling neighbourhood crime. You can read more about the fund and how it is being used here ([link removed]) .
