Dear John,
Our Protect Trans Health campaign has officially launched! We’re collecting comments in support of a new rule released by the Biden-Harris administration that will help protect trans people from discrimination at the doctor’s office.
Trans people of all ages have faced vicious recent attacks, and we NEED to make sure that everyone can access safe and affirming medical care. No one should have to face discrimination at the doctor’s office. Raising your voice can make a difference- and the stories are already rolling in.
We’re hearing from dozens of supportive parents who want their kids to have the best possible care. And we’ve heard from trans elders, including a trans woman in her 70s who finally got to be herself at age 60 – but had to stop seeing a doctor she’d known for decades because he refused to support her transition.
Here's what to do:
The new rule relates to Section 1557, which is the part of the Affordable Care Act that prohibits discrimination in health care. The law itself already exists - and discrimination is already illegal - but the proposed rules help strengthen our protections and enforce the law. Now, you can leave a comment which supports the new rule. You’ll find tips and ideas on sharing your story here, and you can also share your comment on social media with #ProtectTransHealth.
No one should ever face discrimination – and that’s especially true when you’re seeking health care.
Yours in solidarity,
 |
