GCSE results day
Yesterday students across the borough received their GCSE results, and there were some fantastic results from secondary schools across Oldham.

Congratulations to those who achieved what they wanted. If you know a young person who didn't, tell them not to worry as there are lots of options they could consider. They could go on to do A Levels, T Levels or a BTEC, they could go into part/full-time work, volunteering roles or an apprenticeship.

If someone you know has just picked up their results and are thinking, “what’s next?”, our website has lots of useful information on Taking your Next Steps ([link removed])

Ongoing issues with criminal anti social behaviour
Unfortunately we continue to receive complaints about fireworks being set off in the middle of the night. Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Amanda Chadderton, said: “We are aware of the issue with fireworks in Oldham and we continue to work with Greater Manchester Police to tackle.

“Fireworks are a nuisance and can be very disruptive, especially for young families and pet owners. As an Oldhammer myself, I am frustrated by the problem as well. Those setting them off need to stop being selfish and think of others.

“The use and possession of fireworks comes under The Fireworks Regulation 2004. This is a police power and only they can enforce this law. After a number of residents got in touch with me this week I’ve personally spoken with Oldham’s District Commander Chief Superintendent Chris Bowen about enforcing the law, but it is very difficult to police without exact locations.

“Our Environmental Health team has written to wedding venues advising them of their responsibilities, but we now believe that it’s individuals letting the fireworks off rather than the businesses themselves.

“If someone is letting off fireworks on their property between 11pm and 7am and outside of specific occasions listed under the Fireworks Regulations Act 2004, we urge you to contact GMP with the location by calling 101” ([link removed])

A brand new Residents’ Panel
As part of our commitment to put residents first, a new Residents’ Panel is being developed and recruitment to the panel is underway. The Residents’ Panel is just one of the ways we listen to the views of you and our communities and will be made up of ordinary members of the borough who want to help shape Council plans and improve our local area.

Panel members will be regularly consulted with via surveys, focus groups and workshops and their feedback, experiences and views will be crucial in helping us deliver high quality services which meet the needs of our residents.

More information and details on how to sign up can be found on our website ([link removed])

Customer experience survey – tell us what you think
We’re asking residents across Oldham for your thoughts on the services and support we provide.

We want to know what’s important to you when you’re seeking help or support from us. What works well, what doesn’t work well, and where can improvements can be made?

Your opinion matters, and we will be using the information you give us as we develop our new Customer Charter and continue to deliver services focused on you – our residents.

Please take the survey now, and share it with family and friends. It should take no longer than five minutes to complete ([link removed])

Don’t Trash Oldham: Man fined after waste left on the street
Oldham Council is committed to making our borough cleaner, safer and greener.

For that to happen we need you to work with us and keep your communities clear of dumped waste, litter and fly-tipping ([link removed])

Unfortunately, a small minority of people continue to blight the borough and harm their communities by leaving and dumping waste for others to clean up.

Martin McDonagh is the latest resident to find himself in court after he left his waste out and expected others to clean it up. His rubbish was found near his house on County Street.

In court he pleaded guilty to a Duty of Care offence – this means he admitted failing to put his rubbish in his bin, or take it to the tip, or get a licenced waste person to collect it and take it away for him.

The 31-year-old was fined £80 with £200 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
