Hi Revealer,
I write to share some amazing news. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in a unanimous decision, ruled in favor of The Center for Investigative Reporting in our Planet Aid case. It strongly argued that Planet Aid and its director Liz Thomsen were public figures and that our journalists did not engage in actual malice.
In response to our reporting about the organization in 2016, Planet Aid filed a quintessential SLAPP suit against us: one filed without the intention of victory in court, but rather with the intent to harass, bankrupt or silence.
Winning this case is a tremendous victory for the First Amendment and investigative journalism. It proves that we will not be silenced, and we will continue our fearless pursuit to investigate and share the truth, no matter who tries to hold us back.
