Verified Voting - Strengthening Our Democracy
Feeling concerned by the news in election security this week? You’re not alone. At Verified Voting, we’re closely monitoring the many stories we believe deserve serious attention:
  • The Senate Intelligence Committee just released its findings on Russian targeting of U.S. elections, detailing efforts going back to 2014;
  • Robert Mueller also raised the alarm regarding ongoing attempts at interference in our democracy, stressing that “they're doing it as we sit here. And they expect to do it during the next campaign”;
  • FBI Director Christopher Wray cautioned that China poses an even more serious counterintelligence risk;
  • Counties are moving forward with mobile and online voting pilots, despite experts’ security concerns;
  • And in the midst of all these warnings, the Senate declined to advance multiple bills intended to block election interference and offer election officials assistance.
Verified Voting and our partners will continue working hard to pass federal legislation that provides election officials with urgently needed funding, and to enact key security measures. We’re also pleased that our Board members Barbara Simons and Philip Stark will be providing input to the Board of Advisors of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission through a new election security committee, which Simons will be chairing.

At the same time, we’ll keep assisting state officials and help them implement best practices like risk-limiting audits, and informing the public on how they can contribute. We’ll also continue to advocate for best-practice legislation such as Oregon's just-signed audit bill.

We’re grateful to you and all of our supporters who share our conviction that election security is vital to a healthy democracy. Let’s keep working together to ensure that everyone gets the message.
