Dear John,

Three years ago, in the dark days after the 2016 election, we channeled our outrage and despair into organizing and came together to create Get Organized BK.

As the Trump administration fulfilled our worst nightmares, tearing children away from their families, weaponizing the Supreme Court against women, working to take health care away from those who need it most, we marched and rallied and fought to minimize the damage to our democracy. From the beginning, we insisted that “No One is Above the Law” and that Trump must be held accountable for his illegal, unconstitutional, corrupt, anti-democratic actions.

This week the House will finally take a historic vote on impeaching President Trump. Let’s make sure our voices continue to be heard loud and clear, that we will not tolerate or normalize fundamental violations of the Constitution, as Americans all across the country gather to demand that Donald Trump be removed from office.

Join Get Organized BK at the impeachment eve No One Is Above the Law rally on Tuesday, December 17 at 5:30 in Times Square. [[link removed]]

At that first meeting at Congregation Beth Elohim, the week after the election, so many people showed up that we had to turn away hundreds. And the momentum continues in the remarkable activism of so many of the working groups created at GOBK, who carry on the mission of “Brooklyn residents working together to defend democracy and human dignity, shine a light on corruption, resist hate and injustice, and love our neighbors.”

Just this fall, Red2Blue activists mobilized tens of thousands of texts to help build strong majorities in the Virginia Legislature. Water for Grassroots helped with an amazing grassroots win for insurgent candidate Kendra Brooks in Philadelphia. Changing the Conversation Together is bringing their “deep canvassing” practice (developed in Staten Island in 2018) to Pennsylvania. WHARR is fighting fake abortion clinics. Thanks to Brooklyn Voters Alliance, early voting was a reality last month. INBK continues to mobilize every week building strength with Indivisible chapters across the country. These last few years have been tough. But remember how it felt to rally with millions the day after the inauguration? At JFK the night of the Muslim ban announcement? At die-ins to save Americans’ health care? That’s the solidarity we need to insist on ending this long nightmare and turning our country back toward justice, inclusion, and democracy. Show up to an impeachment protest this week [[link removed]] .

Brad

P.S. Get Organized BK has grown into an independent grassroots organization [[link removed]] led by local organizers, but I’m immensely proud to continue to show up and support their incredible work. Social change must be driven by the grassroots, in partnership with elected officials. If this is the kind of leadership you want to see from your elected representative, please support my campaign to bring this work citywide [[link removed]] .
