August is National Immunization Awareness Month
Is your child up to date on their routine vaccines? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the national vaccination coverage among kindergarten children during the 2020-2021 school year dropped by about 1% from the previous year? that amounts to 35,000 more children without vaccination documents.
Help us protect children by doing what you can to get kids caught up on recommended vaccines. With most schools now back to in-person learning, efforts must be made to ensure that all school-aged children are up to date on their routine vaccines, have received recommended COVID-19 vaccines, and routine vaccination coverage is equitably distributed.
Talk to your child?s pediatrician to make sure they?re up to date on their regular vaccine schedule. COVID-19 vaccines for children are widely available at Public Health vaccination pods in LA County. Find a location at ph.lacounty.gov/vaccinepods.
Routine Vaccines Aren?t Just for Kids
National Immunization Awareness Month is held to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages. For adults, the CDC recommends staying up to date on a number of vaccines including, but not limited to: COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, influenza (flu) vaccine, and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) boosters.
Other vaccines may also be recommended for adults. Use the CDC?s adult vaccination quiz?to see if you should talk to your doctor about additional vaccinations.
Furthermore, Public Health offers in-home COVID-19 vaccinations to those who have difficulties leaving their home. If you, or someone you know, could benefit from an in-home COVID-19 vaccination fill out the online form here, or call 1-833-540-0473 from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. seven days a week. Multiple languages are available.
