Dear John, With the fall right around the corner, students, teachers, and parents are preparing for the start of the school year -- and while it comes with the excitement of new classes and new friends, it also comes with the deep-seated fear of gun violence. This summer, Congress passed the first gun safety measure in decades, and while it's a big deal, it doesn't go far enough to keep our schools and our wider communities safe. Assault rifles make mass shootings more than 6 times more deadly, but they're readily available for purchase. Banning them will save lives. We took action in the House, and now it's the Senate's turn. Because weapons of war don't belong in our schools or on our streets. Add your name if you agree. ADD YOUR NAME Too many communities have been torn apart because of our failure to act. We can't let it happen again.
