I’m scared.
75 days out from Election Day, poll after poll shows Dems closing the gap
with Republicans -- a sea change from just a few months ago.
Headlines like this from Yahoo News are everywhere: "New polls show
Democrats could 'win' the 2022 midterms." MSNBC seems almost giddy with
excitement.
But I’m scared that Dems are cheering when we should be digging
foxholes. Republicans haven't even begun their general election push yet
-- and what the speed of this turnaround tells me is that the momentum can
turn against us just as fast.
[ [link removed] ]If you’re worried too, here are some progressives running for election
and re-election in conservative swing districts. They need our help.
Donating to their campaigns now will give them a crucial head start for
their big push this fall.
It is true that there’s a glimmer of hope now that just a few months ago
looked like what could be a democracy-ending trainwreck.
The Washington Post reports: “After a series of actions that started in
late June with the Supreme Court ruling on abortion rights…a path has
opened up toward political victories in November that would hand liberals
a chance at sweeping legislative wins that might eclipse the major
Democratic agenda items signed into law this summer.
But then the Post cautions, “It is, to be sure, a narrow path.”
Cook Political and FiveThirtyEight show why.
For all the headlines and excitement, Cook Political has found cause to
move just one Senate seat (Pennsylvania) from toss-up to leans-D since
March. ONE.
FiveThirtyEight’s House forecast shows Dems with a 1 in 5 shot at keeping
the majority now, up from 1 in 10 earlier this summer.
The likelihood of Republicans controlling the house falling from 90% to
80% does not make me feel like celebrating – it makes me feel determined
to do every single thing I can do to help.
For most of us, that means putting our money where our hearts are –
whether that is $10, $50, or $3.
[ [link removed] ]Here is where you can do that and have a BIG impact. You know what to
do.
Let’s get out there and save our democracy.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
