Dear John, This year, the idea of climate justice made it into the national discourse for one of the first times in herstory! As a translocal alliance of seventy (largely frontline) members–some of whom literally coined the term climate justice–it is our
responsibility to make sure that this national discourse is accurate and focused where and when it matters most. Will you join us in uplifting our frontline work by becoming a sustaining donor? One of the spaces in which we’ve been doing this throughout 2019 has been around a Green New Deal (GND). We have amplified our members’ voices to ensure that a GND leads to a regenerative economy through a Just Transition. For this to happen, we understand that solutions must center frontline communities hit first and worst by the intersecting crises of climate change, economic inequality, and rising neo-facism That’s why we launched our GND working group, which has already strengthened our demands for a people’s solutions lens for a GND, supported a series of townhalls across the country, while also disrupting the mainstream discourse through speaking engagements and the press.
And we’ve seen success! From New York City and Seattle, where CJA members like UPROSE and Got Green have led the way in securing local GNDs, to the Indigenous Environmental Network pushing for a GND to center Indigenous wisdom and the Gulf Coast Center for Law and Policy launching the nation’s first regional GND encompassing the Gulf South just last month, our members are demonstrating what we mean by #LivingOurPower. Check out this video to hear directly from some of our members and see what they can accomplish when we all put our support behind them: |
