# [#] On Tuesday, NY-12 chose Jerry Nadler.
This has been the most difficult race of my life. A long, hard three months since the Republican lawsuit unfairly divided New York City and created fierce battles among friends for this and other New York districts.
Thank you, Team Maloney, my family, and friends. All of you. For your passion, idealism, loyalty, persistence and so much more.
Thanks also go to the many groups – who endorsed my candidacy – local political clubs, unions, women’s rights, LGBTQ+, and many more.
The long battles we fought together led to improbable victories and the opportunity to serve and help countless people, here and around the world.
I want you to know that our work for New York, especially for women and future generations is not over – this is not the end, just a new beginning of fighting harder than ever for the issues that matter most.
I am proud of my many achievements and when the final votes are counted – we all need to hold each other accountable and keep fighting – for New York City, our state, our democracy and equal rights for all.
As the first woman to chair the House Oversight Committee, I am proud to be fighting for a Green New Deal, to hold big oil accountable, for affordable housing, for health care for all, for voting rights, for criminal justice reform, abortion rights and for a city and government that works for all of us, not just some of us.
I still have four months in Congress and will continue to be chair of the powerful House Oversight Committee – you can be sure that we will go deep into questions surrounding the Trump years, before, during, and after his time in the White House.
My activism will not be stopped given this Supreme Court that we now know the recent appointments are there due to millions, maybe billions, of dark money, misleading statements by nominees, and influence peddling with the Trump administration. Just yesterday, the media reported that 1.4 billion dollars – yes, billion – is being pumped into dark-money, right-wing extremist organizations that are out to destroy our democracy and crush a progressive agenda including an agenda for gender equality including LGBTQ+, the environment, health care, and more.
I called Congressman Nadler to congratulate him and wished him every success. Jerry Nadler is a good man – who has served his country with honor.
And I hope Mr. Patel’s efforts will inspire other young people to get engaged, to volunteer, and to run for office, and push for the changes we need.
And actually – in many ways – I think it’s safe to say that on the issues, we stand together.
All of us in this race support a woman’s right to choose and were outraged at the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v Wade .
We all support passing a Green New Deal, establishing Medicare for all, creating more affordable public housing, putting in place common-sense gun safety laws, and stronger protections for voting rights.
Now more than ever, we must elect more Democrats – and especially Democratic women – to see that this agenda becomes laws of the land.
Thank you for everything,
Carolyn
