John, we are seeing trigger laws take affect in anti-abortion controlled states — and Texas just dropped a major one TODAY affecting providers:
This is absolutely HORRIFYING.
And it’s why we are working so hard to make sure that we re-elect our bold pro-civil rights DAs in Texas who have pledged that they won’t prosecute people for providing abortions.
Two DAs we are backing, John Creuzot and Joe Gonzales, have strong Republican opponents in November who will take every chance they get to use new laws like this against abortion providers and women.
These are CRITICAL elections because if our DAs lose, it will mean that doctors and other health care providers in Dallas and San Antonio could be sent to jail for LIFE for providing women with options for reproductive care.
This fight is just beginning, and we need to make sure that Joe and John are re-elected so that they can provide the legal muscles we need in the battles to come.
The amount we raise for our pro-civil rights DAs before their November elections could be the difference between doctors going to JAIL FOR LIFE for performing life-saving abortion procedures or being protected from prosecution.
These are the kind of elections — local District Attorney races — that folks don’t pay as much attention to in the midterms, but DAs can use their prosecutorial discretion to make huge changes — like not prosecuting people for marijuana possession, not criminalizing mental health crises, and now with reproductive rights under attack, they can decide not to prosecute women and abortion providers.
Joe and John have been pursuing justice in Texas for the past four years, and we can’t stress enough how much of a difference a strong, pro-choice DA can make in a state like this, and how many people they can protect.
We must work to together to continue fighting for the safety and well-being of both those seeking and providing abortions — and that happens by supporting these kinds of candidates in these final few months.
Thank you for your support,
Real Justice
