When I was appointed to serve as California’s first Latino Senator, Rep. Karen Bass was one of the first people to congratulate me. She commended me for ‘shattering another glass ceiling’ following then-Senator Harris’s historic election.

Today, I’m honored to put my support behind a friend, colleague, and fellow Angeleno who is set to break another barrier. Los Angeles needs Karen to win this race. In Sacramento, Karen served as the first Black woman to lead any State Legislature in the nation. As speaker, she led California through the most challenging recession since the Great Depression and onto economic recovery.

Her leadership has helped improve the lives of countless vulnerable individuals. Karen passed legislation to help foster care youth, protect 600,000 children from losing health care, fortify our state’s infrastructure, and so much more.
