At Team AOC, we believe it’s our responsibility to organize and support our community year-round, not just before Election Day. And right now, that means helping families in The Bronx and Queens with the daunting task of starting a new school year.
Every year, we work with community partners to distribute free backpacks and school supplies to local students. This year, we are distributing over 1,000!
But our work doesn’t end there. Once school gets started again, we know many students struggle to complete homework or access tutoring services. So, we use our robust community of volunteers to help fill in those gaps!
In 2020, we put out a call to volunteers who could help with virtual tutoring and homework assistance, and were able to train and match hundreds of tutors with local parent-teacher organizations. Alexandria even tutored a student herself!
The Homework Helpers program is still going strong, providing constituents of NY-14 with one hour of free virtual homework help per week.
We’re proud to organize and support programming that other campaigns wouldn’t, and that’s only possible because of the support we get from small-dollar, grassroots donations from emails like this one.
We know this is an expensive time of year for most families, but if you have any amount to spare, we’d appreciate any amount you can give to support our programming that helps families during this stressful time.
