Friend,
Inflation has hit a 40-year high. Everyday people are struggling to make
ends meet, and they want answers.
But the story they're getting from the corporate media - and
policymakers in Washington - simply doesn't match the facts.
The talking heads on cable news say the problem is that businesses are
being forced to raise wages to attract workers, which in turn forces
them to raise prices.
In reality, real wages have barely budged. Meanwhile, corporate profits
have skyrocketed to a 70-year high.
All that extra money we're paying at the gas station and grocery
store? It's not going to workers. It's going into the pockets of a
handful of monopolistic corporations with the power to raise prices
without fear of competition - the same corporations that own and
advertise on our major media outlets.
Common Dreams doesn't get a dime of corporate advertising money. We're
a nonprofit and have no corporate bosses telling us how to spin the
news. But in order to make our nonprofit model of journalism work, we
rely on donations from readers. Without your support, we'd disappear
tomorrow.
That's why we're asking you to make a donation today, in order to
help meet our critical Summer Campaign goal of $75,000 by September 1.
