I don’t mean to start your week off with bad news, but sadly, I must. Last week, Alejandra St. Guillen announced that she lost her recount for Boston City Council by one vote.

This was a heartbreaking loss. Alejandra would have been the first openly LGBTQ Latinx person elected to the Boston City Council. To come so close to victory only to see it leave your grasp is devastating.

I know what it feels like to lose. After losing the first time, I wondered if I should run again – if it was worth the effort. But I did, and I fervently hope that Alejandra does as well.
