Social Security celebrated its 87th anniversary last week … but if the GOP
has its way, this vital program won’t make it another year.

Rick Scott — the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee —
wants Social Security to sunset after five years. Wisconsin Senator Ron
Johnson wants to make it "discretionary." Rand Paul wants to privatize it.
One way or another, Republicans are poised to attack Social Security the
earliest chance they get.^1

That’s why we must strengthen and expand Social Security now, while we
still have the votes to do so.

Security 2100 Act, which will expand benefits and guarantee them to

It’s not just that the GOP wants to take the ax to Social Security. The
program also fails to meet the needs of American seniors.^2

More than half of American seniors are trying to survive on less than
$25,000 a year from Social Security, and by 2035, the program will run out
of money to pay full benefits.^3

There’s a straightforward solution to this problem: Remove the cap
millionaires and billionaires pay into the fund. Right now, they pay the
same as those earning a $147,000 salary.

The Social Security 2100 Act would do just that while ensuring that Social
Security benefits keep seniors out of poverty. But this fall may be the
best chance we have to pass this important measure for a long time.
