Dear John,

In August, community filled us. The Ms. Foundation team grew with the addition of Russatta Buford as Chief Operating Officer. We joined with friends and supporters on Martha’s Vineyard to discuss the state of gender equity, and members of our team travelled to Houston to gather with feminist leaders at the Women’s Convention.

Community is power. To share knowledge and experiences, to commiserate, to plan, to laugh and have joyful moments together, is power. In being together, we are reminded of why we do this work.

Even on our toughest days, and when facing our biggest obstacles, we are grounded in the people we surround ourselves with. We’re honored to be in community with you all.

In solidarity,

Ruth McFarlane
Chief Advancement Officer

Ms. in the News

President and CEO Teresa C. Younger was quoted in a Stanford Social Innovation Review story on evolving trust-based philanthropy for racial justice.

“In our democracy, grassroots organizers are an asset class. As my colleague Teresa Younger, president and CEO of the Ms. Foundation says, these are the blue-chip organizations, regardless of current strategy, that we need to have in our portfolio in perpetuity. Whether you are funding a policy strategy or a legal strategy for greater return or to protect your position, you’ll need these organizations on the ground and in your portfolio.”

Grantee Spotlight: IGNITE

For IGNITE CEO Sarah Guillermo, a passion for seeing women step into their political power started in her first grade class.

"We teach young women that they are entitled to raise their hand, speak up, and lead. Sometimes this means running for office. Other times, this means running a campaign, organizing their communities and advocating for policies they care about. "

Ms. on Martha’s Recap

This month, we hosted our 8th annual Ms. on Martha’s event, where we were joined by our friends and supporters. Chief of Advancement Ruth McFarlane facilitated a conversation between President and CEO Teresa C. Younger, and Global Fund for Women’s President and CEO, Latanya Mapp Frett on the state of gender equity from both a domestic and international perspective.

Thanks to all who were able to attend and check out photos from the event here

Ms. Welcomes Russatta Buford as Chief Operating Officer

We're thrilled to welcome Russatta Buford to the Ms. Foundation team as our Chief Operating Officer. Russatta brings years of experience managing high-stakes initiatives with financial and social impact in both the private and social sectors.

“What drew me to the Ms. Foundation is its approach to trust-based philanthropy and how it invests in movement leaders on the frontlines in their own communities. I am honored to contribute to their track record of success in my new role and support the advancement of equity and justice for all,” said Russatta.
