Team,
I want to start by saying that I am incredibly grateful for your support. You
all have demonstrated remarkable dedication to this campaign, and I couldn’t
have gotten so close to beating my opponent without you. The final tally of
votes was ~10K for my main opponent compared to ~9K for me.
Together, we just proved that candidates without connections or wealth can
compete at the highest levels. What you may not realize is that:
* I never raised enough money to stop working full-time at my job, while
serving as an elected Town Councilor and also raising my two daughters.
* We were out-funded 12 to 1. My main opponent had 1.6M (1.1 M + 500K in
SuperPAC support) against my 130K in grassroots donations.
* My entire team (except for 1 full-time and 1 part-time member) were
volunteers!
I was working against the stigma that big money is needed to win, so thank you
for keeping me in the race! Although I did not win on Tuesday, I am still
energized by the community support and looking toward the future. However, as I
look toward the future, I am confronting the fact that this race has left the
campaign in a bit of debt. Please consider donating any amount to help us pay
off this final bit of debt.

We did the numbers last night, and it looks like we owe 5K in debt and another
25K in loans. This is the true price of the campaign and a cost I was ready to
accrue. However, I wanted to reach out to see if any of you could help ease the
burden of debt that we are facing for running a grassroots campaign.

I know times are tough. We all have debt and loans. If any of you can chip
into paying off the last bit of debt, it would mean the world.
The cost of not taking dark money from corporations is taking on the
responsibility of campaign costs personally. I am proud that I remained true to
my values and my integrity. I can sleep well at night knowing this campaign was
funded by me and by the people alone.
Most importantly, please support all Democrats this November. It is critical
that we control the House and the Senate. We need these seats to protect our
children, women's choice, marriage equality, and to fight for a more fair and
just society.
Thank you all,
Sarah Klee Hood
