Showing up for the women we work with.

John — Legal sexual harassment. No overtime pay. When housecleaners, nannies, or care workers are taken advantage of, it's hard to know who to trust or who can help. That’s where we come in.

I lead Mujeres Unidas y Activas – one of the co-founders of NDWA and a NDWA affiliate here in California – and I take enormous pride that many of the leaders and staff in our organization *are* current and former domestic workers.

That’s important because when domestic workers look at our team, they see themselves: domestic workers, women of color, compassionate and caring leaders. They see people they can trust.

This is no accident: it’s a long process to unlock the hold of trauma and support our members to find their own power, and it’s our secret weapon. That’s why we’ve created "The Future is Us" Fund: to fuel this work for years to come.

We are now less than 3 weeks away from our 15th anniversary celebration, and we need to raise $15,000 to fill the “Future is Us” fund. John, can you make a $25 donation right now to help us reach our goal?

I know how important it is for the people supporting domestic workers to *be* current and former domestic workers, because I was a domestic worker myself from a very young age. As I cleaned houses and cared for children, I was constantly told that I didn’t matter and that my work had no value.

Because I’ve lived it myself, I know it takes time, energy, and commitment to support someone on their journey from exploitation to dignity. NDWA helps us bring our team on this journey through their leadership development programs and invests in our organizing so we can make time to personally mentor domestic workers as the leaders of this movement.

My organization has grown and flourished over the years, with NDWA’s support. And like MUA, there are over 65 local affiliates that are growing more powerful by the day through our work with NDWA. On average, NDWA regrants fund almost half of affiliates’ domestic worker program budgets, and for many affiliates, NDWA provides their only dedicated funding to organize domestic workers. Because of supporters like you showing up for us, we can show up for domestic workers.

The work we do is intensely 1-1, takes time to nurture, to build trust and foster a relationship. Grassroots financial support is critical to keep this up, which is why "The Future is Us" Fund is such a key opportunity.

There are less than 3 weeks left until the deadline to raise $15,000 in grassroots donations. John, can you donate $25 now to help us reach our goal?
