In recent months, Israel has faced multiple security threats from Iranian-backed aggression in Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen, Iraq and Iran.
In November, Israelis were forced into bomb shelters as more than 450 rockets were launched over 48 hours at southern Israel by Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists in Gaza. Weeks later, four rockets were fired at northern Israel by Iranian forces in Syria.
Ensuring Israel has the ability to defend itself, by itself, is at the core of our work together.
And it is our responsibility to ensure bipartisan majorities in Congress understand the threats our ally faces and continue to provide the resources to help keep Israel safe.
During this incredibly divisive time of partisanship and political discord, these imminent threats are a critical reminder that we must always rise above the “controversy of the day” and focus our conversations with Congress on the U.S.-Israel relationship and the issues affecting Israel’s safety.
