Dear Friend,
Amazon has been busy this summer.
They’ve made a string of acquisitions to tighten their grip on consumers. They held a Prime Day so profitable that they’re already planning another cash grab event. But as always, workers have paid the price, with three tragic warehouse deaths this summer and zero accountability from Amazon.
Workers are fighting back, organizing Amazon warehouses across the country and bolstering the wave of worker organizing that has swept the nation. First, they took on Amazon in Alabama backed by RWDSU; then, they won the first unionized Amazon warehouse in New York backed by the Amazon Labor Union. Now, warehouses in Albany, Kentucky, Tennessee, and California have filed to unionize.
Against all odds, these workers have challenged a corporate behemoth that steals its monopoly power by putting profit over people. That’s why ALIGN is proud to recognize Amazon workers from New York to Alabama among our 2022 Movement Builders.
In June, ALIGN strengthened this growing movement by passing the Warehouse Worker Protection Act, bringing transparency to grueling productivity quotas and ensuring workers know their rights. And we won’t stop there. We’re building coalitions that fight alongside Amazon workers for fair working conditions, fair wages, and a fair economy for all.
But we need your support. As a nonprofit, we rely on contributions from allies like you to fund our year-round work addressing the root causes of racial and economic injustice, and the Movement Builders Awards are our biggest annual fundraiser. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating a wave of worker organizing. Join us in building this movement.
