John,

Andrew Virden here – the Apartments Director with the Minnesota DFL. I wanted to update you on the work my team is doing to reach drop-off voters and boost turnout.

Since our first doorknock in June, we've knocked over 60 apartments and more than 12,000 units. That's A LOT of units, and I'm so proud of our entire team for putting in the hard work to make it happen.

Nationally, renters are one-third of eligible voters but typically make up just one-fourth of the electorate. Renters are among those most likely to be left out or missed in traditional organizing models, and we all feel the consequences.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the renter vote by a staggering 30-point margin. And while renters make up one-third of eligible voters nationally, they only account for about one-fourth of the electorate.

If renter turnout had matched homeowner turnout in 2016, Hillary Clinton would have won FL, MI, PA, and WI, beating Trump with an electoral college victory of 307-231.

John, even if we’re able to nudge up voter turnout just a bit, it could be the difference between winning and losing in November. This work is incredibly important, and we can’t keep it up without you.

That’s why I’m reaching out today: I just spoke with Nora, the Minnesota DFL’s Finance Director, and we’re still not on pace to hit our August budget target. If we don’t catch up, the apartment program may not have the resources we need to reach and register voters in apartments!

Can you send a donation that works for you so we can keep our critical apartment organizing program running? We can’t leave anything to chance this year.

Thank you,

Andrew Virden
