I would like to thank you all for the many kind and supportive comments I have received since my result was announced. Losing, by such a small margin, was devastating.

I am proud, however, of the issues we have resolved or campaigns we have run over the last two decades. I know that with the support of my staff and the local Lib Dem team including our many hard-working Lib Dem Councillors, we have made a positive difference to the lives of tens of thousands of local people.

It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the residents of Carshalton and Wallington since 1997.

I know that I will not be the last Lib Dem MP to have the honour to do so! After all, if just 10% of Labour voters had voted tactically Lib Dem instead, this seat would be represented by someone committed to challenging Boris Johnson's agenda, rather than yet another Conservative.

Many people will look at the last few weeks, at these results and be filled with dread about the future of our country. If we want to be part of that open-minded, warm-hearted society, we need to stand up, join together, and fight for it here in Carshalton and Wallington.
