Student Loan Move Should be Called “Inflation Expansion Act”

Wall Street Journal: This is an inflation expansion act. The reports say Mr. Biden will cancel $10,000 in debt for borrowers making $125,000 or less a year. That would cost about $300 billion this year, and $330 billion over 10 years. That’s far more than the $102 billion the Inflation Reduction Act purportedly reduces the deficit over 10 years starting in 2027 (Wall Street Journal). RNC Research: Biden claims canceling student loans won’t have any “meaningful effect on inflation.” That is FALSE — even former Obama economists say it will make inflation worse (Twitter). Rep. Ashley Hinson: President Biden’s plan to “cancel” student loan debt is a handout to the wealthy and a total slap in the face to working Americans (Twitter). Congressman Dan Meuser: Why pay off your self imposed debt if Biden Democrats can get a hard working American to do it for you? Forgiving self induced student debt is a moral hazard for our country & will enhance inflation. Another out of touch and wasteful policy from Biden-Pelosi-Schumer Democrats (Twitter). Mike Gallagher: You borrow money to buy a car, buy a house, get a college education, you gotta pay it back. And if you don’t pay it back, you are irresponsible. And these filthy dirty Democrats want to reward the irresponsible deadbeats who don’t want to pay back their college tuition bill (Daybreak Daily).

Democrats Struggle to Answer Basic Questions About Biden’s Student Loan Bailout

Who pays? Who benefits? What will it cost? There is a reason they refuse to give straight answers. RNC Research: “Who is paying for this?!”: Karine Jean-Pierre has absolutely no answer for WHO will pay for Biden’s student loan bailout (Twitter). John Cooper: This is hilarious. Susan Rice brags about how canceling all these student loans is supposedly going to benefit millions of Americans, and then “can’t say of the top of my head” how much it will cost because she doesn’t know how many people will take up “the opportunity” (Twitter). Steven Portnoy: Biden is employing a post-9/11 law that allows for debt cancelation “in connection with a war or other military operation or national emergency.” Which emergency? “[T]he present COVID-19 pandemic,” per a Dept of Ed memo issued yesterday (Twitter). It is estimated each taxpayer will be slapped with an extra $2,000 (CNBC).

Speaker Pelosi Flip Flops on Biden’s Ability to Forgive Student Debt

Townhall: PELOSI IN APRIL: “People think that the President of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness. He does not.” PELOSI TODAY: Biden’s move to cancel student debt “is a strong step in Democrats’ fight to expand access to higher education” (Twitter). Daily Wire: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and former Trump Secretary of Education Betsy Devos no longer seem to agree on the topic of student loan cancellation, now that President Joe Biden has come out with a plan to cancel up to $20k in debt per borrower (Daily Wire).

Florida Rep. Charlie Crist Alienates Says DeSantis Supporters Have Hate in Their Hearts

Fox News: Florida Rep. Charlie Crist had some harsh words for supporters of his Republican opponent, Gov. Ron DeSantis, during his first press conference as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wednesday morning… Crist’s first press conference since Tuesday’s elections highlighted the nominee’s platform and top issues, including expanding abortion rights and access, protecting LQBTQ+ rights and protecting immigrants living in the U.S., all while slamming DeSantis (Fox News). RNC Research: Democrat nominee for Florida governor Charlie Crist attacks supporters of Gov. @RonDeSantisFL as “haters”: “I don’t want your vote. If you have that hate in your heart, keep it there” (Twitter). Spencer Brown: In a Wednesday morning interview on Morning Joe, Crist said that DeSantis “is on the battlefield of hate” while claiming he is “on the battlefield of love.” It’s more than a bit ironic that Crist, while quoting scripture and declaring his campaign is on the “battlefield of love” — whatever that means — is also saying that some 50-plus percent of Floridians have “hate in their hearts” (Townhall).

Socialist Primary Winner in New York, Kristen Gonzalez, Proudly Announces Socialism is Not Going Anywhere

It is horrifying to think this can happen in the United States of America. Daily Caller: A victorious candidate for the New York state Senate declared her Tuesday night primary win as a victory for socialism in a video that is going viral…. Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Gonzalez’s candidacy, as did the Democratic Socialists of America (Daily Caller). RNC Research: New York State Senate Democrat primary winner Kristen Gonzalez: “We really proved that socialism wins! We are not going anywhere, and we will not stop until we see a socialist slate across this city” (Twitter).

California Will Ban Sale of New Gas-Powered Cars by 2035

New York Times: California is expected to put into effect on Thursday its sweeping plan to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035, a groundbreaking move that could have major effects on the effort to fight climate change and accelerate a global transition toward electric vehicles. The rule, issued by the California Air Resources Board, will require that 100 percent of all new cars sold in the state by 2035 be free of the fossil fuel emissions chiefly responsible for warming the planet, up from 12 percent today. It sets interim targets requiring that 35 percent of new passenger vehicles sold in the state by 2026 produce zero emissions. That would climb to 68 percent by 2030 (New York Times). Washington Examiner: California is the largest auto market in the U.S., meaning its actions are likely to have an outsize impact on the auto industry. It would be the first ban on internal combustion engines within the U.S. In announcing his support for the plan in 2020, California Gov. Gavin Newsom noted that transportation accounts for more than 50% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions. He also noted that without taking such a step to accelerate actions to reduce transportation emissions, the state will not be able to achieve its goal of a carbon-free economy by 2045 (Washington Examiner).

Twitter Denies Whistleblower Allegations as Musk’s Legal Team Uses Them to Access More Information from Twitter

Reuters: Twitter Inc Chief Executive Parag Agrawal moved to reassure employees on Wednesday about a whistleblower’s accusations, calling them “foundationally, technically and historically inaccurate,” during a companywide meeting. Twitter’s former security chief Peiter “Mudge” Zatko had said in a whistleblower complaint made public on Tuesday that the social media company misled federal regulators about its defenses against hackers and spam accounts. Employee attrition has risen to 18.3%, Twitter executives told staff. The months-long chaos related to the Musk takeover has caused some staff to flee (Reuters). Wall Street Journal: The complaint is separate from the merger dispute in Delaware but could be wielded to request more discovery, add fresh claims and provide new information about whether Mr. Musk had accurate details when he agreed to buy the company, according to legal scholars, litigators and lawyers following the case (Wall Street Journal). Washington Post: Elon Musk’s attorneys raised a new whistleblower complaint in arguments in court Wednesday, leaning heavily on the high-ranking former Twitter executive’s allegations as they sought the right to additional data to support their case (Washington Post).

Parents Win Big Across Florida in School Board Elections

Washington Examiner: Twenty-five out of 30 school board candidates in Florida endorsed by state Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) either won their elections Tuesday night or advanced to a runoff. The slate of school board candidates backed by the Republican governor prevailed in the vast majority of races, including in Miami-Dade County, where two DeSantis-backed candidates handily won their races. DeSantis had touted his endorsement of the candidates as an extension of his education agenda, which to date has included a slew of legislative actions that have expanded civics education, defined parental rights, banned critical race theory, and, most infamously, prohibited classroom instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation before fourth grade (Washington Examiner). Jayne Zirkle: School boards in Miami Dade, Duval, Sarasota, Martin, and Clay Counties have all flipped from majority liberal to majority conservative tonight (Twitter). Hugh Hewitt: “Education” is the sleeper issue for every GOP candidate; so is trouble for school board incumbents who have not stepped forward to renounce mandatory masking or the infusion of critical race theory into primary schools. These issues will define many local elections (Washington Post).

Russia Targets Ukraine Train Station, Kills 15 People

Associated Press: Russian forces Wednesday launched a rocket attack on a Ukrainian train station on the embattled country’s Independence Day, killing 22 people, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after warning for days that Moscow might attempt “something particularly cruel” this week. The lethal attack took place in Chaplyne, a town of about 3,500 people in the central Dnipropetrovsk region… The president’s office also reported that an 11-year-old child was killed by rocket fire earlier in the day in the settlement (Associated Press). Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs: Terrorist Russia keeps killing Ukrainian civilians. At least 15 killed in a Russian missile strike on a train station in Chaplyne, Dnipropetrovsk region. As @ZelenskyyUa stressed at UNSC: terrorist Russia must be stopped now before it kills more people in Ukraine and beyond (Twitter). Reuters: Russia has repeatedly denied its forces are aiming at civilian targets. In April, at least 57 people died when Russian missiles hit the train station in the town of Kramatorsk, Ukrainian official said (Reuters).
