Dear Allies,
2019 has been an intense year with new challenges, but also moments of celebration! As we prepare to take a break for the holidays, we’d like to reflect on our collective work together. This year, in partnership with more than 430 Active Member Organizations ([link removed]) , we have been able to fight back against the Trump Administration’s “invisible wall ([link removed]) ” by mobilizing our networks, submitting record-breaking numbers of comments, and speaking out against policies that threaten the safety and stability of immigrant families.
Thank you for your incredible advocacy efforts! Here is a snapshot of what we have accomplished together over the past 12 months. Together we:
* Blocked and delayed implementation of the DHS public charge rule. The legal battle will continue, but one year after the end of the comment period, the rule has still not been implemented anywhere in the country.
* Responded to two open comment periods on public charge proposals from the State Department.
* Responded to a HUD proposed rule that would force many immigrants to make the impossible choice between tearing their families apart or facing eviction and homelessness.
* Helped block and delay implementation of Trump’s Health Insurance Proclamation.
Thank you for your incredible advocacy efforts in 2019. As we approach 2020, we have some changes planned at PIF that will hopefully help us rebalance our resources to continue our efforts to block and delay harmful policies, but also give us more space to empower immigrant families and those who providers services to know their rights; and work with all of you to build an affirmative and progressive agenda. As we develop the PIF Campaign’s priorities for 2020, we want your input! Please complete our annual survey ([link removed]) by Friday, December 20. If you complete the survey and include your name, you will be entered into a drawing for a PIF SELF-CARE PACKAGE!

We also wanted to remind everyone that there are still 2 open comment periods you can participate in before the end of the year:
** 1. Comment on the State Department’s
Proposed Public Charge Form
Deadline: December 23
------------------------------------------------------------
The Department of State (DOS) has published an interim final public charge rule that will restrict people who aren’t white and wealthy from immigrating to the United States. DOS has also proposed an onerous new public charge form to accompany the rule. Public Comments opposing this form are essential to block implementation of the interim final rule and to build the administrative record in case litigation against DOS is filed. We have drafted this PIF template comment ([link removed]) to help you submit a comment opposing the form.
** 2. Comment on USCIS’s Proposed Fee Hike
Deadline: December 30
------------------------------------------------------------
The Trump Administration has published a proposed rule that would make it impossible for many immigrants who aren’t wealthy to gain status or citizenship. The rule would raise application fees for citizenship from $640 to $1,170, for lawful permanent residency from $1,220 to $2,195; DACA renewals from $495 to $765; and for the first time would create a fee for asylum applications. In less than 3 minutes you can submit a comment opposing the fee for asylum applicants ([link removed]) or the increased fee for naturalization ([link removed]) .
Thank you for your continued partnership! Happy holidays!
