When the Harris family came to Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) last spring, they were homeless and Mr. and Mrs. Harris were unemployed and without reliable transportation. During their first meeting with a Family Success Coach, they expressed concern about not having transportation to get their son to and from doctor’s appointments for his chronic medical condition. Their lack of housing and transportation were also making it difficult to secure employment. Thanks to the generous support of people like you, CMCA was able to advise them on how to get back on their feet and today, the Harris family has a bright and secure future! After working with their Family Success Coach, they now have a safe place to call home, their son is enrolled in our Head Start childcare program, and they have a reliable vehicle to get them where they need to go.

 

“While finding housing was vital to the immediate well-being of the family,” said their Family Success Coach, “we were also able to help them get a van and that has allowed Mr. Harris to find and keep a well-paying job and has alleviated Mrs. Harris’ worries about getting her son to medical appointments.”

 

At CMCA we know that strong families are the foundation for strong communities. When parents succeed, children succeed and vice-versa, which is why we use a “Whole Family Approach” to ensure that all members of a family receive the support they need for success. Each year, we respond to a variety of urgent needs, such as the Harris’s lack of transportation to medical appointments, thanks to the loyal support of our community.
