Today is a historic day for this country. Because today, the Biden-Harris administration made good on their campaign promises to forgive $10,000 of debt to borrowers making less than $125,000 and an additional $10,000 for Pell Grant recipients. They also extended the repayment pause through the 2022 year.

This is a day to celebrate.

Student loan debt forgiveness is a transformative investment in our country’s economy, future, and communities.

Nearly 30% of the borrowers in Virginia would be relieved of their entire student loan debt, freeing them from a crippling burden that impacts their ability to move forward financially. Forty percent of the households that will benefit from student debt relief currently make less than $45,000.

Jobs in this century require higher education, technical, or career-specific skills. If we want a workforce that is ready to take on these jobs, we must invest in people, training, and education.
