We just got the secret memo that former Attorney General Barr used to undermine the Mueller report, after we fought in court for more than three years.

The memo presents a breathtakingly generous view of the law and facts for Donald Trump, twisting the facts to benefit him. Among many other issues, it is premised on the idea that there was no underlying criminal conduct—which is not what Mueller found.

The memo supports the chilling conclusion that any president can interfere with any investigation if they believe it could damage them politically. It is clear why Barr did not want the public to see it.

But it’s equally clear why it was so important that we fought for three years to get this memo. Transparency and accountability matter, especially when it comes to the highest levels of the Justice Department spinning the law to protect a president.
